Border Community Resources was founded out of a deep commitment to strengthening families beyond the walls of the counseling office. The organization was created as a natural extension of Border Counseling Services, with the belief that families thrive best when they have access to both clinical support and practical, community-based resources.
The vision for Border Community Resources comes from Elaine Border, LPC, LPC-S, founder and CEO of both Border Counseling Services and Border Community Resources in Anchorage, Alaska. As a licensed professional counselor and clinical supervisor, Elaine brings over [insert number] years of experience in trauma-informed care, parent education, and community mental health.
Through her clinical work, Elaine saw a recurring need: families often wanted tools, education, and encouragement that could support their growth outside of therapy sessions. Many parents needed accessible, preventative resources—places where they could learn skills, build confidence, and connect with other families facing similar challenges. Border Community Resources was created to meet that need.
Since 2018, Elaine has been teaching Parenting with Love and Logic®, an evidence-based parenting program that aligns with her belief in compassionate, respectful, and practical parenting. What began as a resource for counseling clients quickly grew into a broader community offering. Elaine intentionally expanded the program to serve families who may not be in therapy but still want support, education, and connection.
Under her leadership, Border Community Resources now offers parenting classes and aftercare support groups designed to help parents apply what they learn in real-life situations. Elaine has also trained other facilitators in the Love and Logic approach, multiplying the program’s impact and ensuring families have access to consistent, high-quality instruction.
In addition to her work as a counselor and nonprofit leader, Elaine serves as a public speaker and advocate for healthy parenting, trauma-informed care, and effective family communication. Her work reflects a core belief: when parents are empowered with the right tools and support, families heal, children thrive, and communities grow stronger.
Border Community Resources exists to walk alongside families—offering education, encouragement, and connection—so they can build healthier homes and brighter futures.
When I began my work as a counselor, I quickly learned that parents want to do what’s best for their children—but many feel overwhelmed, unsupported, or unsure of where to turn. Therapy can be a powerful part of healing, yet I saw a growing need for resources that support families outside of the counseling room and before challenges become crises.
That belief led me to create Border Community Resources as a nonprofit extension of Border Counseling Services. My vision was simple: to make practical, compassionate parenting education accessible to families in our community and to provide ongoing support that parents can rely on as they grow.
For many years, I have taught Parenting with Love and Logic®, a program that aligns deeply with my values as a counselor and supervisor. I’ve seen firsthand how respectful, relationship-based parenting strategies can reduce stress, build confidence, and strengthen family connections. When parents are supported with the right tools and encouragement, meaningful change is possible.
Border Community Resources exists to walk alongside parents—not to judge, but to support; not to lecture, but to equip. Through parenting classes, aftercare support groups, and community partnerships, we strive to create spaces where parents feel understood, encouraged, and empowered.
It is my hope that Border Community Resources continues to grow as a place of connection and learning for families. By supporting parents, we strengthen families—and by strengthening families, we build healthier, more resilient communities for generations to come.

We believe that families thrive best when they have access to both clinical support and practical, community-based resources.
